Retour à EV Album > Dan Armstrong's 1970 Volkswagen Beetle

PropriétaireDan Armstrong
Lieu de conversionSt. Louis, Missouri US
Véhicule1970 Volkswagen Beetle
A "Work-In-Lack-of-Progress" since 2003. At this point, this is not an actual EV. Just posting to motivate myself to get it on the road by December 2009. Constructive advice is welcome.
My goals:
1)A range of only 7 miles.
2)Top speed 60 mph. Willing to settle for 40 mph, if cost savings are large.
3)Low battery maintenance, don't think I'm interested in Lead-Acid, as I ride my bike except in inclement weather.
4)Components I can "Build On" as more $ becomes available.

11/27/2009 Update: I bought a completed EV online, components about a year old. The other vehicle was a bit of a beater and had a bad CV joint, so it was heavily discounted. Batteries came with it, so I'm going with flooded lead-acid. Adapter from EcosMoteurs in Springfield, MO arrived today. Looks well-built. Special thanks to all the guys from www.GatewayEv.org that came over and helped me disassemble the old EV, and to Drew for helping me put the Beetle together.

02/28/2010 Update: Moteur's in. Did some cutting, but nothing that would be visible with the decklid on. Should I chop that tailshaft?
